Terms of use
Last updated 21 October 2026
The terms on which RailPilot Ltd provides RailPilot. The most important one comes first: live train information can be wrong, so check the station for any decision that matters.
1Live information can be wrong#
Check the boards
RailPilot shows best-effort live train information based on third-party data feeds. Times, platforms and positions can be late, incomplete or wrong. Everything is provided “as is” with no guarantee of accuracy or that it will stay available.
Always check the departure boards, station displays and staff for any decision that matters, such as whether to board, run for a connection, or change platforms. RailPilot is a companion. The station and its staff have the final word.

3What RailPilot is#
RailPilot is an in-journey companion. It uses your device location to work out which train you are on or about to board. It then tells you about live progress and connections as you travel. It can also plan a journey ahead of time so that it is ready to track when you set off.
It is not a ticketing service and it is not a substitute for official National Rail or train operator information.
4Sharing, notifications and the app#
Shared journey links
You can share a link that lets other people follow your live journey. Anyone who has the link can see the journey while it is active, so only share it with people you trust. You can stop sharing at any time from the journey screen, and the link stops working when the journey ends.
Notifications
If you turn them on, RailPilot can send notifications about a saved plan or a journey you are tracking. Notifications are delivered by your device’s or browser’s push service, outside our control. They can arrive late or not at all. The absence of a notification does not mean your train is running normally. Clause 1 applies to notifications too.
RailPilot apps
These terms apply to any RailPilot app in the same way as they apply to the website.
Motion contribution
RailPilot may ask whether you want to contribute motion-sensor readings from your journeys to help improve the service. This is optional and off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off at any time. What is collected and how it is used is set out in the Privacy policy.
5No warranty#
The rail and transport data RailPilot depends on is licensed to RailPilot Ltd “as is”, with no warranty of accuracy or fitness for purpose and no guarantee that it will keep being supplied. So, to the extent permitted by law, RailPilot is provided without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.
6Limitation of liability#
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, RailPilot. This includes missed trains or connections, delays, or costs incurred as a result of information the app showed or a notification it did or did not send. You remain responsible for your own travel decisions and for checking official sources.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under law. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
7Acceptable use#
You agree to use RailPilot lawfully and not to misuse it. You must not:
- try to disrupt or overload the service
- access it by automated means or scrape it at scale
- interfere with its security
- use it for any unlawful purpose.
We may suspend or restrict access to protect the service or other users.
8Intellectual property and data sources#
The RailPilot name, brand and app are ours. The rail and transport data the app uses belongs to its providers and is used under licences they grant to RailPilot Ltd. Those sources and the credits their licences require are set out on our data sources and credits page.
9An independent app#
RailPilot is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, operated by, or endorsed by Network Rail, National Rail Enquiries, the Rail Delivery Group, Transport for London, any train operator, or any other provider of the data it uses. Our use of their data does not imply their endorsement.
10Availability and changes#
RailPilot is offered on an ongoing best-effort basis. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, or the whole service, at any time.
We may update these terms as RailPilot changes. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. If a change materially affects you, we will say so in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11Governing law#
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
